Parade

As Maya is a huge fan of parades, and she is just at that age where everything is magical I plan on taking her to Walkerton, Hanover, Chesley, Paisley and possibly Holsteins Christmas parades. Last night was the first installment, Walkerton. We sat, stood outside of the cafe so we could go back inside if the bathroom called. Maya was terrified of the sirens of the police, fire and ambulance but overjoyed by the candy that was being passed out. I had to convince her it was safe and she could stand on the road. I guess teaching her to have her own inherent sense of danger at early age worked out, she definitely can protect herself.

The strawberry shortcake hat was mine as a child.

Christmas in the Country

In my single parenthood of this weekend I took the children to Christmas in the country. It was a lovey, brisk cold night, with a light dusting of snow on the ground. Ever was snuggled in the sling, Maya in her snowsuit and myself in my parka. It was so lovey that almost everybody I knew I saw there. As a victim of its own success, it was quite crowded. We waited in line for everything we wanted to do, but even for patience Maya it was to much. We really wanted to go on the wagon ride but the line was longer then for Santa ( 20min). Unfortunately the wagon also took you to the bathrooms, hence we made a rather quick exit related to wet snow pants. Poor little soul, We could have walked to the bathrooms, but not when you have to go to the bathroom.

If we go next year... my notes to myself are:
- Arrive after 730pm
- Discuss whining before we get there
- Go to the bathroom before snowsuits.
- Do wear the warm boots

Early Birthday Present

These are jammies I gave to Maya as a early birthday present. I was a tricky mommy, she didn't want to wear her jammies to pajama night at awana so I gave these to her not telling her what they were so she wouldn't miss out on the jammie fun. Unfortunately, when I let her in on the truth, she freaked out and now she wants them to be clothes.

New Camera

Poor Ever will always have a two week voild in his pictoral history related to our dead camera.
As you can see we have a new camera, which is much better then the old, but feels less sturdy, less metal,
Ever is almost two months old, doing two month old baby things like sleeping, and making sounds, and eating, doing tummy time... and thats it really. Oh and he gains weight, alot of weight. He set a record with our midwife, and has almost doubled his weight. Most babies do not do that until six months. I'm sad cause his bitty baby clothes are now doll clothes, and he is rather heavy. Maya has to gain a pound so we can get her a new carseat so Ever can have her 3 in 1.

Sports related injury

So last night night I hurt my knee playing hockey. Its not too bad at all, but I definately pulled the ligament a little and stuff is still popping around in there. I figure I can play again next Sunday, but will have a wear a knee brace of some sort for a few weeks.
I have been waiting for the injury as I can almost count on doing something to one of my knees every couple of years. The first year we moved back here I really hurt my left knee and was on crutches for a few weeks, then 2 years later I hurt my right knee pretty badly as well and needed crutches for a few weeks as well. So its been 2 years since that, my right knee still bothers me some, and so I was kind of waiting for it to get hurt again. Last night I got knocked down while scrambling foer the puck and tried to jump up but did so with my right leg sideways, it went pop-pop-crunch, which means I yelled and stumbled back to the bench instead.
But, I think this isn't too bad a one for my biennial knee injury. Hopefully the next one in 2 years is just as mild :)

Thank You

I am making thank you cards for those you felt the need to gift us due to the birth of Ever. If you are still feeling the need we are still in need of some loving.

A special thank you to those people who sent cards, some of you I have never even met!!!

Oh and Ever is still expecting visits from certain people............

Sling

If I hear from one more person that they didn't have slings when there kids were young, instead of how I usually just smile and nod, I just might say..."oh really they didn't have sheets of fabric".
Come on people it is not that unique, I like to think we are special but we are not.

Too Old

I am really rather fond of the rose petal cottage. If Maya was only a year younger and she didn't already have play tents, play kitchen, little chairs, play washer and dryer...then it would be so her's.
(By hers I mean MINE)

Painted Lady

As a cure to Mayas insentient chewing of her finger and toenails I painted her nails, something she has always wanted me to do but I have refused as she is a little girl. It lasted about four hours until all the nail polish was gone.
Could be anxiety, could be ADD, could be a vitamin/ mineral deficey....it is so bad sometimes she bleeds. I am going to try putting the bitter paint on next and if that doesn't work perhaps some blood tests.

Oh and all behavior modification/ gentle discipline/ extra love and attention we have tried has been unsuccessful.

Numb

Yesterday Maya asked me what the bottom of a tree was called. I could remember leaves and branches but it took it a good 5minutes to remember trunk.
This is why woman need a long recovery post delivery ( and really should not work much while pregnant), their brains really do not work.

Back on the Wagon

Today I ran just over 3km in 15-20ishmin. No great land speed record, but I just did have a baby. I wanted to wait until I got the go ahead from the midwives and inspired by Paula Radcliffe I was anxious to go out tonight. In the dark and rain- My favorite running weather!
I felt stiff and a little off balance related to my massive boobs but surprisingly not to bad. Unlike Paula I will not be winning any international marathons soon..well ever.
I am hoping for a 20min 5km by May.

So if anybody wants a really SLOW running partner, call.

It Happened

Even though Maya did not bathe by herself until she was three, it has always been a 'clean' event. Yesterday, while we were having a family tub Ever pooped in the tub. Needless to say, a shower followed the bath.
