Day of failure

Everything we tried to do yesterday ended in failure.

1. We wanted to see the amazing Punkin Chuckin in Kemble, we get there and it pouring rain. I notice Luke didn't even bring any rain gear, Maya is crying about her pants getting wet, and my coat is not as waterproof as I though thus Ever is getting wet. We left

2. So we travel into Owen Sound to see Grey Roots, a museum. It was closed. On a Saturday afternoon.

3.I decided to drop by Georgian College to sign out a textbook for a course I am taking. Again closed. Guess the students don't study on Saturday afternoon. Only Saturday mornings.

Then we went home. ( Actually, we got to the farmers market just before it closed and bought a loaf of corn bread for our lunch and some kale. Then swung by the library sale but it had been picked over so no amazing finds.)

Drag Queen

We were stamping feet and hands and things got a little messy.
Yes that is a soother- my infant is gaining weight rather rapidly- he was ill in hospital , not nursing and he still gains weight, thus I think there is no harm in his sucking occasionally.

HAppy Birthday Kathie

I will not say how old she is cause some people are sensitive about their age.

Hint- Kathie has a significant portion of gray hair, and she thinks most people should not be driving cause they are too young.

Two Points

1. Ever has a terrible hair pattern, as evidenced here in this photo. I think he will be sporting more hats.
2. Ever has elfish ears.

Baby Gift

ON the occasion of the birth of our son, the Bellamy Family gave us a dishwasher. Much more useful then an outfit or diapers, and much more needed. However with this new arrival has brought about a new obsession for Luke. He spent many hours figuring out and actually installing it 90% himself. ( Yes dear, I am proud.) So if anybody needs help installing a dishwasher Luke can help you out. Oh and if anybody has questions related to what goes in it, how to load it, the various wash cycles - talk to Luke. I think he has in instruction manual memorized from frequent readings.

Viral Rash

Ever got a rash. It was decided it was Viral. The differential was viral vs. high fever, vs allergic reaction to ampillcin.

Sickly

Here is Ever at his worst, when his fever was raging at 39.6, his heart rate was 210, he was too weak to nurse, and he screamed a awful high pitched scream when ever he was moved. Thus it was felt he might have meningitis. Thankfully the doctor feel it was just a bad virus as all the cultures came back negative. Poor little man had to have a lumber puncture, an IV started, and blood taken twice. Even I had to have blood taken.

It was a awful thing for a three week old to endure but we are looking at it as a blessing. Ever had some abdominal distention which the doctor attributed to liver and spleen enlargement as a result pf the infection, thus he had an ultrasound to conform it. The ultrasound also showed an ureterocele with mild hydronephrosis. We would have never known potentially until there was considerable kidney damage. Now it can be dealt with before he loses a kidney.

Every Update

He's not doing too bad, except that the fever keeps coming back. We are not sure if he will get discharged today or not. Anne thinks it won't be until tomorrow. The antibiotics seem to be helping.
We I left yesterday he was being pretty much himself, but on the phone last night Anne said his fever was up again. We will see what the tests we were waiting to come back today say.
Thanks for you support everyone.

Poor Ever

Had to take Ever to the hospital tonight as he suddenly had a fever after being very cranky all day. Since 3 week olds should not be having something like a fever, a trip to the Emerg with one automatically wins you a 48-hour hospital stay and a range of nasty tests.
So Anne and him are there now and I am home to get some sleep and grab some stuff before heading up in the morning.
Everything the checked before I left was normal (except for the fever of coursce) so we just have to see what comes up in some of the lab work.
Anyway prayers would be great.

A Tale of Two Babies

Can you guess which one is which? Maya is the yellow one and babe yet un-named (BYUN) is the white one.

Physically, they seem to have the same nose, Maya is blessed with Luke's Bum where as BYUN has mine. Both their hair at birth is light brown and straight. BYUN has a much larger mouth. BYUN seems to sleep more and is generally more mellow. Maya has a vagina where as BYUN has a Penis.

I gained approximately the same amount of weight. Both where very normal pregnancies. Both delivery's got scary at the end. Maya had a compound presentation of both hands at the face. BYUN had the cord wrapped around his neck twice requiring emergent action on the part of the midwifes. The ambulance was almost called for both delivery's. With Maya the placenta delivery was extremely delayed and with BYUM his heart rate was dropping dramatically low. Episodomey for Maya Minor tears for BYUM. Labour total for Maya was 13hours 13min. Length for BYUN was 2hours 40min. As per the midwifes calculations.

Breastfeeding is incredibly easy with the second child. His latch seems to be better then Mayas ever was. Maya was on the breast constantly from birth, where as this child actually has periods where he dose not want to nurse. Amazing. Both want to be held be that is very normal and expected.

Maya was born at 38 weeks. BYUN had an additional four weeks to grow inutero yet amazingly their measurements are remarkably similar.
Maya
Wt- 7,4 lbs.
Head- 35cm
Chest-34cm
Abd-32cm
Length-53.5cm

BYUN
Wt- 7,5 lbs.
Head- 36cm
Chest-35cm
Abd-32cm
Length-52cm

Placenta Plot

This is our placenta garden. The four feet deep hole was dug with care awhile ago with care and on Saturday we planted the placenta which provided a home for the little fetus for 42 weeks. Kathie said a lovely blessing which caused tears and then Luke and Maya placed the placenta in the hole and it was filled in. A mom was planted to mark the spot.

Interesting side note- the placenta was put in an enamel pot I got at a garage sale this summer. As soon as I saw it I knew its purpose. Now I think it will make a nice soup pot.

Nest Summer I will try to grow some herbs there.
