Every One's a Winner!

During the great mitten purge of 2012, one sole Danier leather glove was keep simply because it was to fine, and soft to trash. Thus i threw it into my sewing corner and knew it would come in handy, someday.

Then Luke lost his wallet. I would like to point out LUKE lost his wallet, and i had a magically and wonderful idea to sew him a wallet with said glove.

A little unconventional in appearance, perhaps the construction isn't up to a Chinese sweat shop standards, but I think it will do.

Token New Years Post

I am sick to death of the same old restitution's I make every single year. Thus I have concluded all resolutions I have made previously are an ongoing process.

2012 Specific

-Do a half iron man and a 50mile foot race.
-Stop pinning on pintrest and start doing.

Note- The picture was taken one day when I was bush walking as I was running WAY off trail near the Mary Rutherford road. After i saw the little fellow I played with it for a while and gave it a bath. I kinda wish i was like Harry Potter cause I want to talk to snakes.

A Year in Books

In my old age I find myself becoming forgetful, taking the same books out of the library, getting half way through and realising I have read that particular book before. Thankfully there is an app for that.

Goodreads .  Initially, I manually added books like some sort of hobo, now with my iPhone, I can scan the bar code and instantly the book is added to my list of read books. There is some problems with it as in sometimes I forget to enter a book or the dates when it was added is wildly wrong. Oh well. It is free and I love it.

I should mention my reading has taken a hit within the last couple of years related to social media. However, the social media is directing me towards actual media and I feel I am more informed about my particular interests. I have no idea about the middle east, sorry that is just how Twitter works.

Thus listed below are the books I read in 2012 and any minor comment I can think of relating to said book. Note- there is a period missing from July- October. The app only works if you actually use it,

 

• One Hundred Names- Cecelia Ahern. Whimsical and delightful, as all her writings.

• The Mystery of Mercy Close- Marian Keyes. Ummm just learned now that is kinda part of a series, and this was the fifth one. opps. Dragged a bit but joyful.

• Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. Kinda like devinci Code for bibliophiles, without the violence. Surprisingly good read.

• The Time Of My Life by Cecelia Ahern- Science fiction for girls. An element of supernatural, but in a good way, like without wars, and ickyness. Firm centre in reality.

• Drama by Raina Telgemeier- Graphic novel for teens. I regularly check out the offerings in the Young adult section cause there is some goodness to be found. Kinda makes me go to high school again. Not where I actually went, but a real school where dramas actually happened cause there were enough students.

• 13 (Women of the Otherword. by Kelley Armstrong - Sadness, last of the series. Loved this werewolf series, or at least a witch also featured. A few years ago the library hosted Ms Armstrong and I wasn't reading her at the time. Now I am so sad at the missed opportunity. Don't read Twilight- read the Otherword series.

 

• The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett- Sweet little novel about unconventional love. Surprised I liked it.

 

• Gold by Chris Cleave. Another novel about making the choice to love. Page turner. Definitely was prepared for the most unhappiest of endings, was delighted to read otherwise. Another highlight was tweeting to the author about how please I was with the ending and I got a response! Amazing!

• Pirate's Passage by William Gilkerson. Picked this one up at the library sale. Hoping to add it to the shelf for Ever's future reading. I am always on the look out for books that will potentially be of interest to him as he ages. I do this because I read once that you should raise a boy to become a man that would make a good husband. I would not be married to Luke if he wasn't a reader, sure we do not read the same books, but we can read together.

• Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter by Carmen Aguirre- Topic was interesting as I had absolutely no background in South American history.

 

• I Suck at Girls by Justin Halpern- Funny funny.

 

• The Journal of Best Practices - David Finch. A man and his life with his wife while he has Asperger's. Interesting,

 

• Carly's Voice: Breaking Through Autism byArthur Fleischmann, Carly Fleischmann-  Interesting to read a parents perspective.

 

• Opening My Heart: A Journey from Nurse to Patient and Back Again byTilda Shalof. Big city nurse has a big medical  event. Canadian.

 

• Friends with Boys by Faith Erin Hicks-Graphic novel goodness. I want more. Not anime cause that's dumb.

 

• Various Positions by Martha Schabas- Ummm ballet is just weird, and the thought of ballet school is terrifying. Good thing Maya has a curvy body and I have already told her ballet is not in her future except for fun.

 

• I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella. Slightly British chick lit formula, but whatever I liked it.

 

• The Night Shift by Brian Goldman- Oh so I have read this. ER MDs thoughts.

 

• World Made by Hand by James Howard Kunstler- One of those books that I keep on thinking about. A post apocalyptic theme. Interesting. Another reason to become a prepper.

 

• My Korean Deli: Risking It All for a Convenience Store by Ben Ryder Howe- Really you buy a convenience store and expect it to turn a tidy profit. Really?? I know nothing about business but even I know that seems like one of the worst ideas.

• Eating Dirt by Charlotte Gill. A memoir of tree cutting. Kinda like being a waitress, jobs that I wish I have had. Not for a long time, but just to see if I could do it.

 

• These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901by Nancy E. Turner- A pioneer love story, with a strong female lead. Whats not to love?

 

• The Condition by Jennifer Haigh- Dysfunctional family.

 

• Hard Gold: The Colorado Gold Rush of 1859 by Avi- hmmm can't really remember much about this one.
