Phones in the 21st Century

If there is one thing that makes me feel like its the "future", its today's touch phones.

In my effort to be more organized with my work stuff, I have been humming and hawing over upgrading my phone to a to one that would allow me to do office stuff, be orgaized and check mail, task list, quick notes, that sort of stuff.
After much research and testing, I decided on the Samsung Omnia:

It has Windows Mobile 6.1, Mobile Office, Wi-Fi, decent reception, touch screen , totally customizable, easy of use, small size etc.
So far I like it and its been pretty easy to get used to.
The only thing I don't like is there is not simple place to put the stylus, which I use on it a lot.
So far it seems like its going to be worth it. I just pray I don't drop it or break it.

Injury

After having not really hurt myself for a couple of seasons, I have been kind of waiting this past year to get injured.
So it happened at the last game of Futsal (indoor soccer) of the season this past Monday.
My team was short and we had no subs. It was about 8 minutes into the second half and my team was up 4-1. I was defence and tried to stop the ball from going out over goal line to prevent a corner kick and at the same time an opposing player was trying to kick it at the net. Somehow I managed to trip over the end of my foot and the other player kind of fell into me at the same time.
So this was the result (although I think this picture is from Wednesday). I was out for the rest of the game and my ankle immediately started swelling. The bruising and such didn't appear until the next evening. Its probably one of the more painful injury's I have had before but at least I can walk on it as long as I don't go sideways at all.
I am just hoping it gets well soon enough that I'm not going to miss any outdoor games.

A tale of Two Races.

A few of the races I have done also have kids fun runs. Up to now Maya has been very much against participating in such events. However, I mentioned this week of the possibility of her running in the 5peaks children's challenge, and surprisingly she seemed keen. Originally she wanted to run the advertised 1km run in her flip flops... but I manged to talk her out of it and into some sensible Barbie running shoes. She defied popular choice of wearing sports wear and instead opted for a skirt ensemble. Maya was so excited getting her number, getting her race kit, and lining up. She wasn't really interested in a warm up and stretch, but really I do not think it affected her performance. She did so great running, not stopping once all with a smile on her face. The course wasn't so much 1km as 250metres, but fun was had by all. To reward her efforts she was presented with a rice krispie and a certificate. She plans on bring her race number and sharing the details of her victorious run at show and tell this week.

After the excitement of Maya's race, I geared up to run the Enduro 8.7k course. As I had run 5 peak course at Horseshoe Valley last year, it being a ski hill and all- I figured although it was a different geographic location, it would be technically similar. Was I wrong!!!
Very technical course which took full advantage of said ski hill. It also took full advantage of melting snow to create MUD. Pictured are my shoes- my free shoes. The ones I have to show off at the run clinic...to the washing machine for them. The hose did nothing.
After learning my lesson last year I correctly chose to go at the front of the second wave. I was running with people at my level. I push them and they push me, few passed and I passed only a few. We headed straight up the ski hill to wide switch backs which essentially were mud slip and slides. I managed to go down only once and caught myself with one muddy hand. By a km into the race I was mud from the knees down. We then settled into single track mostly uphill rolling hills, mud pits, rocky large boulder sections, MTN biking boardwalks, and very steep uphills. THEN i did the second loop for the enduro course. Was hot, should have worn my singlet. Found the first loop hard and painful, second fun, after I had gotten into a groove. It was way more demanding then I thought it would be, and because of that stupid mud I have blisters on both of my feet.
Coming into the race I was thinking 42ish min for the trail run. After I started it, guessed 45min, after the second loop I figured I would be happy to finish under 55min. Honestly I have never walked more in a race in my life. And to think I did this instead of the half marathon because I thought it would less taxing on my STILL infected with cold virus body. I'm using an inhaler now!!!
By the numbers...
Overall- 64/258
Female- 7/94
Age Cat 3/36- Yes a metal!
Time- 51:53
Pace- 6:03- You have no idea how this number hurts me.

Twitter

Wondering at 3:38am if anybody I know is using twitter? Other than YOU Luke. Will the secrets ever end???

Spring Thaw

For a fun little "C" race I did the Barrie Spring Thaw this weekend. Mostly it was a reason to have a quick visit with Andrea, but I also wanted a chance to do a 5k race and see how much farther I have to go in order to do 5k under 20 minutes.

Perhaps this wasn't the race to do it.

As it was a 'C' race- meaning mostly for fun, not following my pre race rituals, sickly with a cough that sounds like I am a pack a day smoker, a sinus thing going on that causes a constant drip of thick yellow blood tinged discharge......perhaps it was not my best perform possible.
Goal was 22min.
Actual time 22:18.. so not bad, beat the fit looking girl with nicer legs then me so all is good. Think I was the third female across the line. Second in my age category, pretty what much I expected from a charity run benefiting the local christian high school.

The highlight post was going to the running room and getting a brooks running skirt. Thanks Annie! Took it out on a LSD today. Is great... slightly worried I got the wrong size- hoping it will shrink in the wash a tad.

Maya's Easter Bunny

After we had the usual egg hunt, we had a big present hunt. It took Maya a hour, and tears to find her bunny in the hutch. She also go swim goggles- under her pillow.

TimeOut

So we are not really a fan of time outs for kids who have no concept of what it is. Maya only started time-outs at age 4, after she had seen them at monisorri and had no idea what was going on.

However, Ever seems to have been born with the innate understanding of time-outs. He will get in trouble and be told he is a naughty boy and then he runs crying to this corner. We didn't pick it out- he did. We have even had to go and pick him up from the corner when he was crying too hard. We have used this to our advantage... when we do not think he is understanding what he has done is not good behavior we move him to the corner and suddenly he knows he has been a naughty boy.

I think it is funny so I had to take a picture.

But it is almost my birthday.....

Tim Hortins- 13
Anne- 0

Come on.. for sure I thought I would win today. I was too lazy to get dressed today to go to the store to buy cofffee fliters so I went to the drive through in my jammies for coffee. Last night I bought a extra large to increase my chances and still NOTHING.
What is wrong with my Karma? Where has my luck gone? Did I do something wrong that God is punishing me? WHY???

Popular

Growing up I was the furthest from popular one could be. Definitely uncool. Now I think it was one of those life experiences that made me who I am today..but if I choice...YES I would have loved to be popular. One who was always chosen first for groups, who got invited to all the parties and never had to worry about who would be my partner.
Imagine my utter sadness when Maya started crying the other night about how she was not invited to one of her classmates birthday party's..and many of the other little girls were. Now to be fair, Maya is not friends with this girl, she never talks about her, has never done any activities with her, and I think they have even had minor spats in the classroom Of course all Maya could think about was how she was excluded from the fun. I tried to console her by explaining there would be other parties, how she has better friends, but mostly I just held her while she cried and I tried not to cry myself.

Done

In the past several weeks I have heard of several couples my age that are parting ways. Couples that were not co- habituating but married. I am devastated for these people- who honestly I barley know. I can't help but wonder what brought them from martial bliss to the big D. I think about how much in love Luke and I are but also about how much we have been fighting lately and how we feel like we are two ships that do not even pass in the night.. separate beds...night shift. Could it happen to us? Could we grow that much apart? Could the only thing that remains be the children...which oddly enough is what pulls us apart the most?

Just for Once..

I would like to have a race photo where I do not look like I'm 200lbs, I'm constipated, i just heard my cat died, I have a tack in my shoe... you must be getting the picture.

I just asked Luke how he can love somebody so ugly.

Pictures...ATB

The rain coming into Hamilton. Luke says '.....do you know what is go great about this rain...the wind!!" So not funny. Actually the wind died down and it was fine.
Pre race in Copps Colisum. Luke and I happy to have alone time. Funny story. So we are celbrating our marrage in the hotel the night prior and the fire alarm goes off. Seriously.
Chic race wear. Wore the bag for few km but then it the rain stopped and it was bothering me so I ditched it. Maya's old mitts. Threw them away as they got to wet to do anything..after the rain had started again.

Done..mad about my time.

Around the Bay

Goals, we all have them Some times we share them with people, and other times we just keep them to ourrselves. Not daring to hope that they could actually happen. In every race I do I have a 'puplic goal', and 'good lord please help obtain this goal and I will sacerfice my children to you goal'.
For the 30km ATB my public goal was 2:45. I really did not feel well trained for this race, only having two 25km, a few 20km, and several 15km. Some but not enough. No real hill workouts and a single track workout. However, I really liked the sounds of the gradualted metals.

For woman to obtain:
Under 2:15- Gold
2:15- 2:30- Silver
Over 2:30- Bronze
So my private, I will keep it so quiet until I hit the start line was 2:29:29. Based on GUN time- not chip.

My results:
2:32:34-GUN.
2:31:27- CHIP

Other stats
Overall-868/4917
Gender-168/2295
Age grouping-46/334

Can you feel my frustration? I worked soo hard that race, I made up the lag in gun by 10km, and was on task to finish by 2:28 right up to 2:12. That it wasn't so good. I made it up the big hill, and was ready to put it on, but there was nothing to cook. I had bilateral intense hip pain, and a shin pain so intense I and slightly worried I have a stress fracture. I wanted to hold onto 5min/km but just could not do it, it was all I could do not to walk. For the record I walked for ten steps around 24km. Mentally it was such a blow to have so many people passing me when they kicked it the final two kilometres- literally it had to be at least 50 people. When I was handed the bronze metal I just wanted to throw it across the room. I was ashamed changing in the bathroom post with women who had silver...and gold. I know I am hard on myself but damn I wished I had trained better. CAUSE I COULD HAVE DONE IT.

Boring below- written for my own memory.
Other notes on the race include the rain..lots of rain, dripping soaked to the bone,I will be warm again in June wet. I wore a garbage bag for the first two km, but then the rain let up a bit so i chucked it, and it started to rain two kilometres later. Felt like I was caring five pounds on each foot with the weight of water soaked shoes and socks.
  • Really loved the course, actually did not think the hills were that bad. The one bridge REALLY scared me due to my aversion to bridges and open bodies of water. As well the traction was terrible.
  • To encourage myself and to give myself a boost I sing to myself the songs on my ipod. Wonder if people think I am nuts. Ok with that. On and I couldn't get the sound to work at the start line for some reason. Got it going with seconds to spare. Another runner said the look on my face was pure panic.
  • For the potentially windy, rainy, nine degree run I wore- thick carpi's, long sleeve tech shirt, and wind jacket. If I had a RAIN jacket that was breathable that would have been ideal. My running room jacket is too big.
  • Saw a man running with a pink tank, pink tutu, pink shoes and was caring a wish wand. Wish I had a costume.
  • The real hero's in this race are the 30km walkers. Seriously they walk it.... for fun..in the rain. Although, some of the walkers are much faster then the many runners.
  • No chocolate milk at the finish line.
  • Body guide would have been a good thing all around where my underwear lies. Serious chaffing. Have never had chaffing before.

So I feeling very ruff now, forgot to book a massage last week so will be making some calls tomorrow. Stairs are an issue, I even have pain in my wrist and who knows how that happened.

Installed

Ever was just chewing on the end of the iPod cable, of which the other end was plugged in.
The computer detected something and installed an "unknown Device"
I wonder if I can download programs for him now or change his settings...

Groves

I think I have a minor girl crush on Lauren Groves. She represented Canada in Triathlon at the Beijing Olympics...until a bike crash left her spending time in casualty rather then the podium.
I envy her life. Honestly I think I could be a pro athlete and train all day. What fun that would be! Dead serious.
